Correspondence Law Degree

Is it a good idea?

What is a correspondence law degree and how can it be obtain? Even thought “correspondence” is a less familiar word, correspondence programs are really distance learning programs or online programs. A correspondence degree means that you would obtain your legal education online, at a distance.

Now here is the catch. The online study of law is still in its very early stage. No American Bar Association accredited law school offers the JD degree online. The only state where you are permitted to take the bar exam, an exam that is required for you to practice law, is California. If you live in California, or you are willing to relocate, you can become a practicing lawyer with a distance law degree. If you do relocate to California, you would only have to stay and practice law for a few years. After that you will most likely be able to move to another state and sit for the bar, becoming licensed to practice outside of California.

Before committing to a full time online law degree program, find out more about associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s programs in legal studies. Any one of them may be a smart career move.
