Diploma in Nursing Programs

One way to obtain a Registered Nurse (RN) certificate is by enrolling in a Diploma in Nursing Programs. While Diploma degrees were more common in the 1970s, some nursing schools still offer this type of RN certification.

Nursing diploma degrees usually take 2-3 years to complete, are connected to the hospital and prepare you to work in a hospital or other inpatient facilities. Because the program is hospital based, you will find more clinical work requirements compared to other degree programs.

As a graduate of the Diploma Program, you become eligible for the Registered Nursing Licensing Examination and a career in nursing. Bare in mind that this type of program provides more limiting career choices and career advancement options.

Depending on your goals and future aspirations, this type of degree may or may not be limiting for you. You may find that as nursing care becomes more complex, Diploma Programs may not provide the depth of training required in meet the growing demands on the nursing profession.
