There are a number of law enforcement scholarships that will allow you to pursue a degree program in law enforcement, without leading to high student loans and costs. Like for a number of other disciplines, if you invest the time and effort into searching available scholarships, if you apply on time and fulfill the required paperwork – you may be able to go to school for a lot less, if not free.


Where do I Look for Law Enforcement Scholarships?

The easiest thing to do when you start looking for available scholarships is to start at the financial aid office of your school, the institution where you plan to obtain your degree. Most universities and colleges, traditional and online, will have scholarships available. These scholarships may be based on scholarly merit or on financial need. In addition to a number of scholarships, most schools provide a set of awards to those majoring in criminology or law enforcement.



When deciding what school to choose for obtaining you degree, investigate the available scholarship and award programs. Take this information into consideration prior to making your selection. You will find that some schools offer a number of scholarships to their students, while others have very few. If getting a scholarship is important to you (and it should be to all really), then make this part of your decision making process.

Once you have investigated all available scholarships at your future school’s financial aid office, start by going national and investigating the numerous national law enforcement scholarships that exist and have been put in place for those wishing to pursue a degree and career in law enforcement. Office of the Police Corps

This is a federal program with a mission of increasing the number of skilled police officers, officers with advanced education across the US. With this in mind, this programs generally offers scholarships of up to $3,750 per year to those planning to earn an undergraduate degree, complete police corps training and serve at least four years in a community at risk. This scholarship is annual and it is renewable so you could receive up to $15,000 for the four years of study. There are no limitations on the use of funds and you can use the award for tuition, fees, books, room or board. There are no eligibility restrictions and the award is not based on family income. Association of Certified Fraud Examiners

Are you passionate about fraud awareness? If you plan to pursue a criminal justice or law enforcement degree and would like to focus on fraud issues, you can apply for the Ritchie-Jennings Memorial Scholarship from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

The mission of this organization is to increase the body of anti-fraud knowledge and support future anti-fraud professionals through scholarships, endowments, research and other projects. This organization allows students the possibility to pursue a career in fraud examination, and deterrence of fraud.

This law enforcement scholarship is $1,000 and include a one year Association membership. To be eligible you must be an undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in a full time criminal justice program. You can only be awarded this scholarship once, as passed winners are not eligible to reapply.

Women in Law Enforcement Scholarships

This professional organizations focuses on the promotion of gender equate within the law enforcement and criminal justice filed. Its goal is to promote recruitment, retention and promotion of women in law enforcement and to develop a support network for women in this career. To this end, a scholarship award in the amount of $2,000 is awarded annually to qualified females. The award is renewable and prior recipients can reapply. The award is based on academic potential, achievement as well as commitment to serving in the field of law enforcement.
